Kayak Fishing Tauranga NZ April 2012, Bay Kayak Anglers comp

In this trip report I am at Tauranga NZ, fishing part of the Bay Kayak Anglers, Cobra kayaks classic 2012.. I met with a few lads around 5am at Pilot bay which is located beside Mt Manganui, there were a few locals and some from Whakatane and Auckland… the plan was to fish the harbour entrance for Kingfish on the outgoing tide then head out into the bay and drift for snapper and what ever else..

With no luck targeting kingfish we all turned to snapper.. the guys landed a few good trevally and there were large schools of kahawai all around the bay… snapper were hard to get on the bite with plastics so with some with some encouragement from some fresh berley and a change to squid and mullet we started pulling in the snapper.

Whilst i did not catch any fish worthy of weighing in for the comp it was a great day on the water and went home with a feed of fresh snapper for my family and friends. I was pleased to have taken ice in the Fish bag as the weather turned on a  stunner of a day which would have cooked my fish after such a long session (5am – 2pm)
